Comments: Speciality: etchings of urban scenes. An avid collector of Modernist art, he at times owned works by Brancusi, Picasso, Matisse, as well as works by Steeler, Stella, MacDonald-Wright and other American painters. During the Great Depression he began collecting American Indian artifacts. In 1999 the Philadelphia Museum of Art staged an exhibition of his own works together with works he had collected ("Mad for Modernism: Earl Horter and His Collection").
